Men's Basketball Falls in Tough Battle with Drury

The Lindenwood men's basketball team (4-2, 4-2 GLVC) lost a tough game to Drury (1-1, 1-1 GLVC) by a final of 90-84 on Sunday afternoon in Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions fell behind quickly to open the game, but Lindenwood was able to hold a 13-9 lead at the 15:18 mark of the first half.  With multiple lead changes, each team held the lead for just over eight minutes in a back-and-forth game.  Near the end of the half, Brandon Trimble hit a three-pointer to give the Lions a 43-41 lead.  Lindenwood closed out the first half with a 47-45 lead.  The Panthers were able to score 12 second-chance points, while the Lions took advantage of strong defensive play and scored 11 points off turnovers.  TJ Crockett and Vijay Blackmon led the Lions with 11 points each in the first 20 minutes of play.

Lindenwood got off to a slow start in the second half, registering just four points in the first six minutes of play.  The Lions were able to get stops on defense, however, resulting in just a seven-point deficit at the 14:04 mark.  Lindenwood continued the fight back, but could not regain the lead as the Panthers maintained a consistent one-possession buffer.  The Lions struggled from behind the arc in the second half, making just 1-of-12.  Drury was efficient in the final 20 minutes of play, shooting 66.7 percent from the field.  The game was tight all the way to the end, but the Panthers were able to hang on for the slim 90-84 win over the Lions.

QUOTABLE
"Tough one today as we end the semester," said head coach Kyle Gerdeman.  "We knew Drury would be good as always, and it would be a tough 40 minute game.  The difference I think in this game was just our inability to make open shots, sometimes they don't go in.  We did a good job of finding other opportunities to give ourselves a chance to win, but at the end of the first six games, we don't have a lot to complain about.  We are off to a great start, and need to use the break to get healthy and catch up on some rest.  We are looking forward to the second part of the season for sure."
