The No. 11 Lindenwood baseball team (15-1, 3-0 GLVC) picked up a 9-1 win against Southwest Baptist (6-12, 0-3 GLVC) in the finale of a three-game series, giving the Lions a sweep over the opposing Bearcats.
GAME ONE OVERVIEW
The Lions received a strong start from
Kyle Hentis (5-0) who pitched six shutout innings, while striking out six, and only allowing four base hits. Hentis has picked up the winning decision in his first five starts of the season, while allowing only one earned run over his first 31 innings pitched in those five starts. Hentis was relieved by sophomore
Niko Marshall, who picked up the first save of his career, after three dominant innings out of the pen. Marshall struck out seven batters, while allowing only one earned run on two hits.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lions tacked on their first run of the game in the bottom of the second, on a
Johnny Herrman double to right field to score
Beau Collier. Lindenwood would bring around two more to score on groundouts from
Logan Rezash and
Will Lanxon. Lindenwood kept the offense rolling with two more runs in the bottom of the third, as
Calvin Nowak drove a shot into the left field gap that allowed him to circle the bases for an inside-the-park solo home run, and an error by the Bearcats' pitcher that scored
Mitchell Krebs.
Lindenwood would go on to score four more runs over the next five innings. For the tenth time this season, the Lions have held an opponent to two or fewer runs, and the team is 10-0 in those games.
