High Scoring Effort Leads Women's Basketball Past Southwest Baptist

Box Score The Lindenwood women's basketball team (6-4, 6-4 GLVC) pounced on Southwest Baptist (4-9, 4-9 GLVC) early, winning 74-63, on Saturday.

As the two teams approached halftime, the Lions held a 42-22 lead, in a half that saw them shoot 57.7 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from deep. The team got to the charity stripe six times, successfully scoring on five of them. Lindenwood outrebounded Southwest Baptist, 19-14, while alsoleading the entirety of the first 20 minutes. The Lions recorded 12 assists, over doubling the Bearcats' total of five.

The second half saw the Lions continue to stay in front, as they did not trail in the contest. The biggest lead for the team in the second half was 22 points, which came late in the third quarter. Devin Fuhring and Julia Ruzevich led all scorers in the second half with 13 points. Lindenwood received 10 of its 32 second half points off of the fast break, and five of the team's points were on second chance opportunities.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions jumped to a 17-4 lead in the first quarter, on a three-pointer by Ellen McCorkle.
  • Lindenwood led by as much as 20 points in the opening period, which included a 10-0 scoring run late in the quarter.
  • The second quarter included much of the same dominance, with the lead widening to as much as 25 points.
  • The team received 13 bench points in the second period, while limiting Southwest Baptist to four points from its reserves.
  • The Lions outscored the Bearcats, 23-21, in the third quarter. The Lions shot 60.0 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from deep. J. Ruzevich was 2-2 from deep in the period.
  • Southwest Baptist outscored Lindenwood, 20-9, in the fourth period. This included an 8-0 Bearcats scoring run, however the Lions held a double-digit lead the entirety of the quarter.
  • Three different Lions scored double-digits on Saturday. J. Ruzevich's 15 rebounds tied a career-best, while Bain also tied her career-record of 16 points.
BOX SCORE LEADERS
  • Fuhring led the Lions with 24 points. Jamie Bain tied a career-high with 16, while J. Ruzevich matched Bain's 16 points.
  • J. Ruzevich led all players with 15 rebounds.
  • Fuhring and J. Ruzevich were tops on the team with five assists. Grace Neff added four dimes for Lindenwood.
  • Neff recorded three steals, while Fuhring finished with two.
  • McCorkle continued to host a block party, notching two against the Bearcats. Nicole Hernandez, Bain, and Fuhring also tallied a blocked shot.
