The Lindenwood football team (5-2, 3-0 GLVC) took down UIndy (4-3, 2-1 GLVC) by a final of 28-20 in a big road win in Indianapolis, Ind.
Â
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions fell behind near the halfway of the first quarter, after the Greyhounds scored on a short touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead. The Lions struggled to gain momentum, as UIndy added a field goal to close the first 15 minutes with a 10-0 lead.
Â
Cade Brister began to find his groove in the passing game, which led to a four-yard touchdown run by
Robert Giaimo to make it a 10-7 game. However, the Greyhounds answered with a field goal to build their lead back to 13-7. One of the nation's top rushers put UIndy up by 13 with a five-yard touchdown run to take a 20-7 lead over Lindenwood heading into the half.
Â
The Lions settled in to start the second half, and the momentum shifted on a fumble recovery by
Wesley Hines to give the Lions the ball at midfield. Brister made a big play with his legs to set up another touchdown run by Giaimo to pull the Lions within one score. The Lindenwood defense again made key stops to keep the Greyhound offense from creating a big drive.
Â
The Lions put together an eight-play 69-yard drive, which was capped off with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Brister to
Alex Faddoul to give Lindenwood a 21-20 lead. Lindenwood forced another three-and-out, to give the Lions a chance to extend the advantage. Brister made an outstanding play to scramble out of the pocket and pick up 13-yards, but came out of the game in the process. Lindenwood put trust in
Cole Dugger, as he threw his first pass of the game to
Payton Rose for a 17-yard touchdown, making it a 28-20 Lindenwood lead.
Â
Again, the defense made the big plays late in the game to keep the Greyhounds out of the end zone. Dugger connected with
Clint Sigg and Faddoul at important points in the next drive the chew up the clock. Lindenwood registered a 28-20 win over UIndy to take sole possession of the top spot in the GLVC. It is the second time in as many meetings that the Lions have beaten the Greyhounds, and the third road victory of the season. Lindenwood shut out UIndy in the second half, with the help of a team-leading 13 tackles from
Grady Daniels.
