Women's Volleyball Falls in Five Sets at Missouri-St. Louis

Box Score The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (13-8, 6-4 GLVC) was defeated at Missouri-St. Louis (17-6, 9-2 GLVC) on Friday, 3-2.

MATCH OVERVIEW
The first set saw the Tritons go up 1-0 in the match after an extensive 26-24 victory. The Lions out-killed the Tritons, 15-12, in the opener and had less attack errors, 7-6. Missouri-St. Louis was able to accumulate more service aces than Lindenwood, 3-1. After holding a consistent three-point lead for a majority of the set, the Triton offense was too much to handle and the Lions could not stave off the opponent.

A bounce back second set effort by the Lions evened up the match, 1-1, with Lindenwood winning by a score of 25-22. Battling back from down, 20-16, the Lions rattled off four-consecutive terminations to tie up the set. A 5-2 run with the set tied, and a 9-2 run overall, gave the team a win in the second set of play. Lindenwood totaled one more kill, 15-14, and two more blocks, 3-1, than the conference-foe UMSL.

Lindenwood went up 2-1 in the match with a 25-21 third set victory. A 17-9 advantage in kills helped lead the Lions past the Tritons in the third set, especially paired with a stout defense which held the opposition to a .080 hitting percentage. After UMSL put a run together to go up by two, 19-17, Lindenwood closed out the set on an 8-2 stretch.

After taking the second and third sets in the match, the Lions would drop the final two sets, as well as the match.
