The Lindenwood women's basketball team (0-2, 0-0 GLVC) takes home court for the first time this season on Wednesday, welcoming in Emporia State (2-0, 0-0 MIAA) for a 5:30 p.m. tip inside Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
The Lions opened the 2021-22 campaign with a two-game Ohio road trip against No. 8 Ashland and Malone, as Lindenwood dropped both games by scores of 88-53, and 88-69, respectively.
In those two games, Lindenwood was led by
Julia Ruzevich, who averaged 16 points per contest, including a team-high 17 in the loss to Malone.
Ellen McCorkle (13) and
Gracie Neff (10) were the other Lions in double figures against the Pioneers.
Jamie Bain chipped in nine points, including 2-2 from behind the arc.
Ruzevich and McCorkle also registered double figures in the season opener against No. 8 Ashland. Ruzevich, a graduate forward compiled 15 points on 7-9 shooting, while McCorkle added 13 on 6-10 from the field.
Defensively, McCorkle paces the Lions with 6.5 rebounds per game, while Bain has been disruptive, averaging a team best 2.5 steals per contest.
Emporia State opened the season with two wins in the MIAA/GAC Challenge, with wins over Harding and Henderson State. The Hornets bring a balanced offensive attack with four players averaging double figures, led by Tre'Zure Jobe, who averages 24 points per game this season.
The Lions' lone win in the series history came back on December 18, 2017, a 93-72 victory inside Hyland Arena.
