The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (14-9, 7-5 GLVC) moved to 6-0 at home this season with a 3-0 sweep of Maryville (10-15, 2-11 GLVC) on Tuesday.
MATCH OVERVIEW
The Lions ended a three-match losing streak with a solid victory against the Saints. Lindenwood hit .203 as a team while holding the opposition to a -.008 attack percentage. The Lions totaled 10 more kills, three more blocks, and seven more assists in the victory. The team has not lost at home this season, and the Lions are 12-2 in their last 14 home contests.
In an extended first set, which Lindenwood took by a score of 26-24, the Lions amassed 11 kills while limiting the Saints to six kills. The Lions jumped out to a 7-2 lead early on kills from
Rebecca Janke and
Audrey Weber. After a run by Maryville evened up the set at 10-10, the Saints would commit three-consecutive errors to allow the Lions to retake the lead. In a back-and-forth effort, the Lions would take the 25th and 26th points on errors from the Saints hitters.
The second set saw the Lions trail by as many as seven points, going down 12-5, entering a timeout call by head coach
Will Condon. Following the timeout, the team rattled off seven-straight points to square up the set at 12-12. The Lions would not trail for the remainder of the set, which culminated with a kill from
Mackenzi Sifuentes on an
Abby VanBuskirk assist.
Lindenwood dominated the third set, including taking 10 of the final 12 points, in a strong defensive effort. The Lions buried the Maryville offense and limited them to a -0.024 hitting percentage, while recording 10 kills as a team.
Taylor Gentemann led the way for the Lindenwood offense with three terminations in the set.
