The Lindenwood men's basketball team (4-2, 0-1 GLVC) ran out of gas on Monday, as the Lions lost 90-84 to Maryville (6-1, 1-0 GLVC) in overtime from Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.

GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood started slow out of the gates, but
Kevin Caldwell Jr. put Lindenwood up 8-4 at the 16:30 mark after registering his fifth point of the game. Caldwell Jr. came down the court just two minutes later to knock down a three-pointer to break a tie at 16-13. With 12:43 to go in the first half,
Brandon Trimble hit a three ball to put Lindenwood ahead by four points. Trimble continued to stroke it from behind the arc, as he tallied his third three-pointer of the game at the 3:33 mark to make it a 39-34 Lindenwood advantage.
Â
Just 30 second later,
Brandon Suggs posted a block, got the rebound, and ran the floor to throw down a monster dunk to send the crowd into a frenzy. Lindenwood closed out the half with a 46-38 lead after Caldwell Jr. hit a three-pointer as time expired. The Lions were hot from three-point range, knocking down 10-of-15, four of which came from
Jacoby Ross. Lindenwood took care of the ball and committed just three turnovers in the first half, but got beat up in the paint, as the Saints scored 26 points down low.
Â
Lindenwood held a comfortable lead in the early stages of the second half, as another three-pointer at the 14:46 mark by Trimble gave the Lions a 57-46 lead. Even though the Lions kept knocking down tough shots, Maryville began to gain ground. The Saints eventually tied the game at 68-68 with less than five minutes to go in regulation. With 1:02 remaining, Maryville held a five-point lead. After a missed free throw, Lindenwood ran down the floor and Ross knocked down a three-point shot to cut the deficit to just two points. As the game got within 30 second to go, Trimble stole the ball and Ross got to the basket to draw a foul. Ross made both from the charity stripe, which sent the game into overtime.
Â
The Saints built a lead as large as seven points, which proved to be too much to overcome in the 90-84 win for Maryville. Ross led all scorers with 27 points, while three other Lions ended the game with double-digit points. Suggs scored eight points and pulled down a game-high 11 boards. Lindenwood closed the night with 15 made three pointers, but shot just 17-of-27 from the free-throw line in the game.
