Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Crockett, Trimble Lead Men's Basketball to 83-69 Victory

The Lindenwood men's basketball team (9-8, 9-8 GLVC) had a great shooting night on Thursday, which led to an 83-69 win over Maryville (7-10, 7-10 GLVC) inside Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.

GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood wasted little time getting the shots up early, as Brandon Trimble hit a three pointer at the 18:38 mark to give the Lions a 3-2 lead.  Romelo Burrell built the Lindenwood lead to 8-4 less than three minutes later, but the Saints were locked in from the field.  Maryville accumulated a 17-11 lead near the halfway point of the first 20 minutes.

The Lions battled back, and with 4:03 to go in the first half, Burrell hit a three pointer to give Lindenwood a 29-25 advantage.  The Lindenwood offense stalled out for the remainder of the opening half, as Maryville held a slim 31-30 lead at the break.  Trimble led all scorers with 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range, but the Saints outscored the Lions in the paint by a margin of 20-2.

Lindenwood began to find a consistent groove at the 14:15 mark of the second half, as Mason Gaze hit a three ball to give the Lions a 42-40 lead.  TJ Crockett followed with a three pointer on the next possession, and the offense took off.  Nearly six minutes later Burrell hit his second three pointer of the game, and knocked down another less than a minute after that to make it a 61-53 lead for the Lions.  Gaze put the Lions up by 12 points after knocking down his second three-point bucket of the game at the 6:12 mark.

The Lions played quality defense down the stretch to maintain a comfortable lead.  In the final four minutes of the game, Lindenwood was a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe.  The Lions closed out the game to sweep the Saints in the season series with an 83-69 victory at home.  Lindenwood was on fire from behind the arc, as the Lions knocked down 50 percent (13-of-26) of their three pointers.  Trimble hit a team-high five three pointers on eight attempts, while Burrell was a perfect 3-for-3 from long range.

QUOTABLE
"Happy for our team tonight," said head coach Kyle Gerdeman.  "They are giving us everything they have and deserved a good win against a good GLVC team.  Guys continue to step up and make plays, TJ (Crockett) is consistent, but the guys around him are getting better and better.  It's been enjoyable to see the growth of this team."
