Game Recap: Baseball |

No. 6 Baseball Sweeps William Jewell on Saturday

The No. 6 Lindenwood baseball team (8-0, 4-0 GLVC) earned its second sweep in as many weekends with a pair of victories over William Jewell on Saturday.  The Lions picked up a 7-3 win in game one, before posting a 13-3 victory in the second game of the doubleheader at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

GAME ONE OVERVIEW
The Lions started off the game with a quick 1-0 lead after an-RBI single by Mitchell Krebs in the first inning.  William Jewell tied the game in the top of the third inning with a two-out single.  Lindenwood answered in the bottom half of the inning, as Bryce Beckmann brought in a run on a sacrifice fly.  Again the Cardinals tied the game in the top of the fifth inning, but the Lions had an answer in the bottom of the frame.

Beckmann and Calvin Nowak registered back-to-back singles with one out, and each swiped a bag to give Lindenwood two runners in scoring position.  Beckmann scored on a wild pitch, and the Lions were patient at the plate to draw a pair of walks to load the bases.  Sam Kissane cleared the bases on a triple to deep right field, giving Lindenwood a 6-2 lead.  Krebs extended the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a massive solo shot to right field.

Tyler Cassmeyer put the Lions in great position with his 6.0 innings pitched, as he held the Cardinals to just two runs on eight hits allowed.  Brody Roach earned his second save of the year, after going the final three innings in the 7-3 win for the Lions.

GAME ONE LEADERS
Mitchell Krebs (4-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 BB)
Kolby Schulte (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 BB)
Sam Kissane (1-for-3, 3 RBI, 1 3B, 1 HBP)

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
Lindenwood wasted no time jumping out to an early lead again, as Jack Lochner scored on an error by the Cardinal in the first inning.  William Jewell tied the game in the top of the second inning, but again the Lions would make that tie short lived.  Lindenwood did all of the damage in the third inning with two outs, which started with an-RBI double by Nowak.  In the next at bat, Beckmann scored on a wild pitch before Beau Collier drove in Nowak on a single through the left side for a 4-1 lead.

The Cardinals cut the deficit to 4-2 with a run in the top of the fifth, but Nowak put the lead back to three with an-RBI single through the left side.  Lindenwood broke the game open in the sixth inning, in large part to patience at the plate.  The Lions brought in the first run on a bases-loaded walk, followed by a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.  Lindenwood scored back-to-back runs on wild pitches, before adding two more runs on a fielder's choice.  William Jewell scored one run in the top of the seventh, but a two-RBI double by Kissane in the bottom of the eighth ended the game in a 13-3 victory for the Lions.
