Men's ice hockey cruised to a 10-0 shutout over Canisius Friday afternoon in the first round of the American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division I National Championship at the Maryville Ice Center in Chesterfield, Missouri.
The No. 3 seeded Lions jumped in front of the No. 14 seeded Golden Griffins with four goals in the first period. Lindenwood duplicated that effort in the second and then added two more tallies in the third.
Vegard Faret and
Andy Willis each scored twice, and six other Lions each hit the back of the net once, including the first collegiate goal from freshman
Mason Kruger.
Lindenwood outshot Canisius 58-13 and
Cooper Seedott stopped all 13 shots he faced to earn the shutout victory in goal.
The Lions improved to 16-1-0 on the season. They'll enjoy a day off before facing the winner of a Saturday matchup between No. 6 seeded Minot State and No. 11 seeded Calvin. The quarterfinal matchup for Lindenwood is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Maryville Ice Center in Chesterfield.
