Lindenwood softball (23-13-1, 16-12 GLVC) concluded the regular season with a pair of close losses to No. 5 UIndy (37-5, 26-2 GLVC) on Sunday.
GAME ONE RECAP
The Lions started
Marina Esparza on the mound in the first game on Sunday, receiving four innings of five earned run ball, along with four strikeouts.
Brianna Macias entered in relief of Esparza, tossing two innings and striking out one, while allowing one run.
Lindenwood was held scoreless until the top of the sixth, when
Whitney Wendel lined a single up the middle to score two.
Four different Lions tallied a base hit in the opener of the doubleheader, including
Taylor Bushman, who had two of the team's five total hits. Bushman also scored one of Lindenwood's two runs, when she raced home on Wendel's single.
GAME ONE LEADERS
GAME TWO RECAP
In the team's final regular season contest of 2021,
Amanda Weyh received the starting nod, pitching 4.1 total innings. Weyh allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks, while striking out one.
Stormee Galka pitched in relief, allowing two runs on three hits.
The Lions scored first in the matchup on a
Whitney Wendel single to left field, driving in Weyh and
Ceairra Perez.
After three unanswered runs by the Greyhounds, Wendel lined a homer over the center field fence to tie up the ballgame, 3-3. The UIndy offense would not be able to be contained, however, scoring the final four runs to take the sweep.
