The Lindenwood football team has been picked second in the 2021 GLVC Preseason Coaches Poll, released by the conference office on Friday. The Lions will look to build off a solid 2019 campaign, which was highlighted by a GLVC title.
The Lions earned 44 points in the coaches poll, including three first-place nods. Lindenwood was just three points behind UIndy, as the Greyhounds earned the top spot in the preseason poll with five first-place votes. Truman State tallied 37 points, as the Bulldogs joined the Lions and Greyhounds as the only GLVC schools to appear in the national rankings at one point during the 2019 campaign. Missouri S&T secured 32 points, while McKendree tallied 24 points in the coaches poll. Southwest Baptist (19), William Jewell (12), and Quincy (9) rounded out the eight-team league.
Lindenwood put together one of the best seasons in school history in 2019, and possibly the best season since joining the NCAA. After a 1-3 start, Lindenwood responded with seven-straight victories to close out the regular season. Lindenwood captured the GLVC Championship, and advanced to the NCAA Division II Playoffs for the first time in school history.
Lindenwood set four school records over the course of the season, while breaking one game record. The Lions rewrote four individual game records and 12 individual season records during the 2019 season. Head coach
Jed Stugart earned GLVC Coach of the Year, while
Cade Brister (offense) and
Drew Seers (defense) garnered GLVC Player of the Year honors. Lindenwood claimed a total of 15 all-conference spots, along with 10 GLVC Player of the Week accolades.
The Lions will open the 2021 season at home on Thursday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m. inside Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
