Box Score 2 The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (3-1, 0-0 GLVC) picked up wins over Montevallo (2-1, 0-0 GSC), 3-1, and Lane (0-4, 0-0 SIAC), 3-0, on the final day of the Union Volleyball Invitational on Saturday.
MATCH ONE OVERVIEW
Lindenwood picked up a 3-1 win over Montevallo in the opening match of Saturday's portion of the Union Invitational in Jackson, Tenn. The Lions tallied one more kill than the Falcons, 48-47, seven more aces, 12-5, and seven more digs, 67-60.
The first set saw the Lions dominate with 13 kills on a .310 attack percentage to win the opener, 25-15. After the Falcons brought the score within two points, 14-12, the Lions took nine of the next 10 points to take a 10-point lead, 23-13. The two teams would trade the next four serves before Lindenwood came away with an opening set victory.
In the third set, which broke the 1-1 tie to put Lindenwood up, 2-1, the Lions finished with two less errors than the opposition, 4-2. Both units battled for much of the set, with neither team successfully pulling away. After watching the competition go up, 23-21, Lindenwood rattled off the final four points to retake the match lead.
The fourth and final set, giving the Lions the 3-1 win, saw the team amass 14 kills while holding the Falcons to nine kills. Lindenwood dominated Montevallo early, taking an 11-5 advantage in the early portion of the fourth set. The fourth set saw the Lions total four 3-0 runs at separate occasions, leading them to a 3-1 match win over the Falcons.

MATCH TWO OVERVIEW
Continuing their dominant ways, the Lions capped off tournament play in Jackson, Tenn. with a commanding 3-0 sweep of the Dragons. With the win, Lindenwood finishes 3-1 at the Union Invitational. The Lions held the opposition to 17 kills while amassing 41 kills, had all three service aces, and finished with more blocks, 5-1, assists, 38-16, and digs, 36-20.
The first set went the Lions' way, 25-11, as Lindenwood registered 16 kills as a team paired with a .619 attack percentage. The final three points of the set came on errors by the Dragons, allowing the Lions to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set was the widest scoring margin of any set for Lindenwood in the tourney, winning by 16 points, 25-9. The Lions notched a .480 hitting percentage with 15 kills, while holding the Dragons to just four kills. With the score at 14-7 midway through the set, Lindenwood went on an 11-2 run to go up, 2-0, against Lane.
The final set of the match, and the tournament for Lindenwood, was won 25-13. A 3-0 run by Lane tightened the Lindenwood lead to three points, 12-9. Near-flawless execution by the Lions would allow for a 13-4 closeout run to earn the team's third-straight victory to begin the season. The Lions did not trail to the Dragons at any point throughout the three sets.
