ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's volleyball team fell to the Tennessee State Tigers in a 1-3 loss in Hyland Arena on Friday night.
"I thought the TSU did a great job of making us uncomfortable early and their defensive effort was impressive," said Head Coach
Will Condon. "Early on, we were unwilling to adjust and allowed it to get the best of us."
The Tigers won the first set by 20-25 victory, then had a strong grasp on the second set, blowing by the Lions in a 13-25 win. Lindenwood held on however, not letting Tennessee State off too easily, taking the third set into overtime and coming out on top in a comeback style 26-24 victory. The Tigers were able to get the fourth set in a 21-25 final victory.
The heavy hitters for the Lions today were
Madilyn Dement, who led the way with 11 total kills.
Mackenzi Sifuentes was right on her heels with 10 total kills on the day.
Abby VanBuskirk led the way in the assists category with 37 total.
Jessie Seidel recorded 13 total digs throughout the match, while
Nyah Wilson was next in line with 11 total.Â
Another noteworthy performance came from
Amber Schade, who subbed in while the Lions were down 22-24 in the third set. The sophomore knocked down back to back aces, tying things up for the Lions and eventually helping secure Lindenwood's third set victory. Schade and
Taylor Gentemann each had two service aces a piece, leading the way for the Lions in that category.Â
"We found some traction in set three made more plays and were able to win that set," said Condon. "Overall, TSU just played better than us. We have done a good job of responding on day two. Â I am confident we will have a better effort and perform better tomorrow."
"All these games are learning opportunities for us," said Condon. "We are seeing different opponents with different strengths. Â We have to learn to adapt and change our game in order to create success."
Up next, Lindenwood will turn around for a rematch with the Tigers in Hyland tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm.Â
