Women's Hockey Welcomes No. 12 Penn State This Weekend

The Lindenwood women's hockey team (0-4-0, 0-0-0 CHA) will return to the ice this weekend, which kicks off a two-game set with No. 12 Penn State. (5-4-1, 0-0-0 CHA). This will be the CHA opener for the Lions while also serving as the home-opening series. Puck drop in game one is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. while the series finale begins at 1:10 from Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.
 
The Lions will look to build off of their success on home ice from a year ago, as every win last season came in Maryland Heights, including winning four-straight in December of last year. It was the first time Lindenwood has won four-consecutive games since the 2011-12 season.
 
Lindenwood is back in action after a month off. In their last series with No. 4/5 Wisconsin, the Lions dropping both games by scores of 6-0 and 10-0, respectively. Despite the score in game one, goaltender Natalie Ferenc put on a show, stopping a career-high 66 shots, including 31 saves in the second period, setting the new conference record for most saves in a single period. The senior netminder finished the contest with a .915 save percentage.
 
The 66 saves were the fourth most in a single game in CHA history. The West Bloomfield native joins some familiar names on the list, as the top four spots are occupied by current or former Lindenwood netminders. 
 
For her performance, Ferenc earned CHA Goalie of the Week honors. Through two starts this season, Ferenc ranks second in the conference with a .915 save percentage, while making an average of 48.5 saves per game, tops among CHA goaltenders. She joins Morgan Neitzke as the other Lindenwood player to earn weekly honors, as Neitzke was tabbed conference Forward of the Week during the first week of the season.
 
Penn State holds a 24-16-6 advantage in the series history, The Nittany Lions won both games last season by scores of 5-3 and 4-1.
