Women's Volleyball Edges Redhawks in Five Set Victory

ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's volleyball team brought down the SEMO Redhawks in five sets on Thursday night in Hyland Arena.

"One of the attributes that we have been impressed with this team is their ability to adapt and grow from moment to moment," said Head Coach Will Condon. "Obviously, we were disappointed with the result on Tuesday but when we were back in that same situation tonight the team responded and found a way to finish and get the win."

OVERVIEW
The Lions played a sharp first two sets, taking down the Redhawks in 25-23 and 25-22 victories. The Lions posted .325 and .310 hitting percentages, respectively, playing clean offense and lockdown defense throughout the entirety of the two sets.

The Redhawks were able to find a window to get back in the match, however, fighting hard to squeeze in a 21-25 victory over the Lions. After building momentum, the Redhawks blew by Lindenwood in the fourth set, coming away with a 14-25 victory to push things into a fifth set.

The fifth set was back and forth for the most part, but the Lions held on to grab the 15-13 victory over SEMO, despite various challenges from both sides. The Lions hit .208 as a team, while Mackenzi Sifuentes tied the school record for most kills in a single match with 24 total, which is also the highest number of kills from a Lindenwood player in the Division I era.

Sifuentes was dominant in all offensive areas tonight, hitting .476 to add to her already impressive 24 kills. The redshirt senior also knocked down a team-leading three service aces, and also tallied four block assists on the night. Rebecca Janke was another blocking machine, recording three solo blocks and three block assists to lead the way for the Lions in that category.

Jessie Seidel was a defensive powerhouse, recording 20 total kills throughout her five sets played. The junior libero also recorded 17 receptions and added six assists to her stat line. Madilyn Dement had a strong performance on both sides of the ball tonight, recording a second-best 17 total digs and 13 total kills while hitting a strong .294.

LEADERS
Mackenzi Sifuentes (24 K, 4 blocks, 3 ACE .476 %)
Madilyn Dement (13 K, 17 digs, 1 block)
Abby VanBuskirk (47 AST, 13 digs, 2 blocks)
Jessie Seidel (20 digs, 6 AST)

"I thought we did a good job early on of playing a good all-around game," said Condon. "Our effort on defense was where we needed it. Kenzi was almost unstoppable. For a middle to get 24 kills in a match, it takes a team effort and she did a great job of taking advantage and scoring at such a high level."
