ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's volleyball team swept the SIUE Cougars in three sets on Tuesday evening in Edwardsville, Illinois.
"Tremendous team effort from beginning to end," said Head Coach
Will Condon. "We started with some aggressive serving and matched that with some impressive defense. It was fun to see them having fun and playing with and for each other."
The Lions took the first set in a 25-21 win, holding onto their early lead throughout the set. Lindenwood set the tone with a tough collective effort on both defense and offense, exhibiting strong communication and total coverage of the court.
Lindenwood began the second set in a similar fashion, leading 15-5 at one point, coming at SIUE with an unforgiving attack. They held the Cougars to a 15 point second set, winning 25-15 despite SIUE looking to make the comeback.
In the third set, the Lions ran up a steep 16-3 lead on the Cougars, riding their momentum throughout the set's entirety and not taking their foot off the brakes once. The Cougars attempted to close the gap yet again, but Lindenwood held on strong until the very end, winning the third and final set 25-14.Â
Game leading performances came from
Taylor Gentemann, who put up the most kills for the Lions with 10 total.
Abby VanBuskirk was a key cog in Lindenwood's successful offense, posting 27 total set assists.
Jessie Seidel led the way with 16 total digs, while
