Women's rugby earned a hard-fought 31-26 victory over Life University Saturday afternoon at Lupo Family Field in Marietta, Georgia.
With a large crowd turning out for the Running Eagles Senior Day, the Lions were up against a tough and motivated squad from the first whistle. The first half was a physical battle, but
Ahnea Aupiu,
Jadyn Collins, and
Amanda Ware helped keep Life at bay. Tries from
Demi Allen and
Claire Ferguson gave Lindenwood a 17-5 lead at the break.
The Running Eagles closed the gap early in the second half while the Lions found themselves in penalty trouble, but a late surge that included two tries from
Amy Brice and a single score from
Jayla Hampton, along with bend, but don't break defense kept Lindenwood in the lead and on top at the final whistle with a five-point win.
Acting Head Coach
Trevor Locke summed up the match against the long-time D1 Elite rivals.
"Our effort was absolutely immense throughout the entire game on both sides of the ball and in the set piece time," he said.
With the victory, the Lions finish the fall campaign undefeated. The remainder of the schedule is still coming together, but they will resume play in the spring.
