Women's Hockey Blanks RIT For Seasons First Win

The Lindenwood women's hockey team (1-10-0, 1-4-0 CHA) picked up its first win of the season in a 1-0 shutout win over RIT (2-14-0, 0-3-0 CHA) on Friday afternoon from Rochester, N.Y.

GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood controlled the play in the opening period, outshooting RIT, 12-3 in the first 20 minutes. All the offensive pressure resulted in a powerplay opportunity for the Lions and just before the halfway point of the period, Molly Henderson found the back of the net on the man advantage, taking the handoff from Rachel Goff and finishing the wrap-around goal for her first collegiate tally. Brooke Pioske also picked up an assist on the score. Lindenwood took the 1-0 advantage into the intermission.

The Lions continued their strong offensive play in the second period, generating a great scoring chance early in the frame seeing Morgan Neitzke in with Goff, but Goff was denied as the score remained 1-0. Lindenwood earned four powerplay opportunities in the middle frame and had plenty of opportunities to add on but couldn't. Through two periods, the Lions outshot the Tigers 28-10, but only led 1-0 after 40 minutes of play.

The Lions maintained their 1-0 lead throughout the third period, but RIT came with a push, The Tigers tallied 13 shots on goal in the final frame, which included some quality chances with the goalie pulled. However, Natalie Ferenc stopped all 13 to seal the 1-0 victory and earn the first win on the season for Lindenwood.
