The Lindenwood men's hockey team (4-10-0) fell 5-1 to Wisconsin (6-8-0, 0-6-0 B10) in the series finale on Saturday night from Madison, Wis.
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood killed off an early powerplay opportunity for the Badgers as
Matt Ladd was sharp between the pipes in the opening frame. The Lions earned a chance on the man advantage shortly after the kill, but Wisconsin forced a turnover in the Lindenwood defensive zone and took a 1-0 lead with the shorthanded goal at the 6:26 mark of the frame. Ladd finished with 16 saves in the first, denying some good scoring chances to keep the score at 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.
Ladd continued his solid play in the second period, keeping Lindenwood in the game. The Badgers had three powerplay opportunities in the middle frame and scored on one of them, which came with less then two minutes remaining in the period. Wisconsin also added an even strength goal during the second 20 minutes of play and took a 3-0 lead into the second intermission.
The Lions looked sharper in the final frame, compiling 10 shots on goal in the third, its most of any period in the game. However, the game continued, and they couldn't close the gap. The Badgers added a fourth goal at the 14:47 mark, going up 4-0. Lindenwood kept battling as
Jack Anderson netted his first collegiate goal a few minutes later on the man
advantage, assisted by
Joe Prouty and
Cade DeStefani, making the score 4-1. Wisconsin added another late goal, as the game finished 5-1 in favor of the Badgers.
