ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's basketball team will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to take on the Drake Bulldogs tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m.
The Lions are still in search of their first Division I win, most recently coming off a pair of losses at the Grand Canyon University Thanksgiving Classic in Phoenix, Arizona last weekend.
Mary McGrath had an extremely impressive week despite the Lions' losses to Cincinnati, Manhattan and Grand Canyon. The sophomore knocked down team-leading 22 points against the Bearcats and 16 points against the Jaspers, and put up the second-highest number of points against the GCU Lopes with nine total. McGrath also was consistently strong on the boards, having snatched up 22 total rebounds between the three games.
Other noteworthy performances came from Paige Craft, who finally got herself back into the mix for the Lions, putting up a team-high 11 points against Grand Canyon on Saturday. Sophia Horton also got her first minutes of the year this week, having finally come back from last year's knee injury. With each game, Lindenwood's bench is coming closer to being at full strength for the first time of the 2022-23 season.
This week's opponent is currently sitting at 3-2 on the year, most recently coming off a 97-60 victory over the Howard Bison. The Bulldogs are 2-1 so far in their home arena, the Knapp Center, last defeating No. 22 Nebraska 80-62 back on November 19.
Leading the Bulldogs is senior Maggie Bair, who has been averaging 16.4 points per game, tallying 82 total points throughout her five games played. Sophomore Katie Dinnebier is her partner in crime, leading Drake with 4.2 assists per game so far this year.
Bair is also the Bulldogs' leading rebounder, averaging 1.8 offensive rebounds and 6.6 defensive rebounds per game so far, compiling a total of 42 total on the year. She will challenge the Lions both offensively and defensively during this game.
Thursday will be the first meeting between these two programs in women's basketball history, kickstarting a new rivalry between both teams.
