The Lindenwood men's hockey team (4-13-0) dropped the series opener to the University of Vermont (7-11-1, 2-10-0 Hockey East) by a score of 4-2 on Friday night from Burlington, Vt.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Catamounts came out firing, finding the back of the net twice in 5:20 to open the game. After the early goals, Lindenwood started to get its footing, earning a few powerplay opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net as Vermont maintained its lead and took a 2-0 advantage into the locker room.
Matt Ladd was strong between the pipes in the middle frame, stopping all 13 shots against. This allowed Lindenwood to cut into the deficit as
Adam Conquest picked up a loose pick and wristed one past the Catamounts netminder, making the score 2-1 at the 11:07 mark.
Caleb Price picked up an assist on the score. Lindenwood continued to trail by that score after 40 minutes. Â
The Lions got off to a quick start in the final frame, as
Mitch Allard knotted the game 2-2 just eight seconds into the period after he poked home a Conquest shot.
Caige Sterzer also picked up a helper on the game-tying score. Shortly after, Lindenwood picked up a major penalty and had some work to do on the kill. The Catamounts would find the go-ahead goal at the 9:34 mark of the final period. Vermont would find the empty-net late in the third period to seal the 4-2 win.
