ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's basketball team will be competing in their second conference matchup of the season against the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech in Hyland Arena tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
The Lions were most recently defeated by the Eastern Illinois Panthers by a final score of 65-72 last night in their conference opener.
Mary McGrath, the OVC Co-Player of the Week, and
Devin Fuhring tag-teamed the Lions' leading offensive performances, each tallying an impressive 18 points a piece against the Panthers. McGrath was the leading rebounder for the Lions as well, finishing with eight total rebounds, while
Brooke Woodyard would go on to post the next highest number of rebounds with five.
Emily Benzschawel was the third and final Lion in double figures at Eastern Illinois, going on a hot streak in the third quarter to knock down 10 total points. The senior guard would end the night with 12 points, bringing her PPG average to a strong 10.8.
McGrath now posts the highest points per game average for the Lions with 11.3, while also boasting the highest rebounds per game average with 5.5. Fuhring is right behind Benzschawel in the third slot on the Lions' leaderboard, averaging 10.6 points per game. Other top performers include
Alana Striverson and
Masyn McWilliams, who both lead the Lions' in the assists per game category, each posting a 2.3 average thus far.
This will only be the Lions' fourth home game of the year, playing seven games in various road locations during the non-conference campaign and their first OVC matchup on the road as well.
Tennessee Tech currently sits at second in the OVC standings with their 7-4, 1-0 schedule marks thus far. The Golden Eagles are most recently coming off their first OVC game too, defeating SIUE 85-70 last night. Earlier in the season, Tennessee Tech also had a matchup with the Cinncinati Bearcats, and, like the Lions, were also handed a loss by the Bearcats (57-68).
The Golden Eagles are led by Maaliya Owens, who currently averages 12.8 points per game to spearhead the Tennessee Tech offense. Defensively, Reghan Grimes is the heavy-hitter, averaging a team-leading 6.0 rebounds per game so far this season.
