Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Wins Big at Maryville on Saturday

The Lindenwood men's basketball team (10-13, 6-9 GLVC) got the win against Maryville (10-12, GLVC 4-9) with a score of 73-55 on the road on Saturday.

OVERVIEW
The Lions took the lead early on, consistently keeping Maryville at a 10+ point distance throughout the majority of the first half. Lindenwood was shooting well, going into the halftime with a 53.1 field-goal percentage and a 6-13 success rate from outside the arc.

Lindenwood's defense was strong as well, recording 21 first-half rebounds as a group. Brandon Suggs grabbed three of these, which helped eventually push him atop the Lions rebound leaderboard with 11 total.

The Saints closed the gap at the beginning of the second half, and with under ten minutes to go, the Lions were only up 55-49. Kevin Caldwell Jr. went on a bit of a run though, knocking down a crucial three-pointer with 8:51 left in the game. The Alton, Ill. Native then snagged a defensive rebound and assisted Trent Champagne on another big three-pointer, which helped put the Lions up 61-49.

Caldwell was the Lions' biggest offensive gamechanger against the Saints, dropping 24 points (.649 points per minute) as well as contributing five assists and one offensive rebound.

Brandon Trimble and Romelo Burrell were right behind Caldwell with ten points apiece. Trimble had five rebounds and five assists, while Burrell recorded nine rebounds, three steals, two blocks and three assists.

QUOTABLE
"Great win for us as we head down the stretch of the season," said head coach Kyle Gerdeman.  "I'm happy the way we hung in mentally over 40 minutes, we fought through a couple Maryville runs, and our mistakes and finished the game strong. I give our guys a lot of credit for that mentality, and a very good defensive effort.

UP NEXT
Lindenwood will take on Missouri S&T for a rescheduled GLVC faceoff on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Hyland Arena.
