The Lindenwood women's hockey team (5-21-1, 3-9-1 CHA) lost 6-2 to Mercyhurst (20-10-2, 10-5-0 CHA) on Friday night inside Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.
GAME OVERVIEW
Mercyhurst got off to a strong start to begin the series, taking a 4-0 lead in the first period. Lindenwood settled down and took advantage of a Mercyhurst penalty in the second period. After
Jada Burke won the faceoff in the offensive zone,
Maddison Stitt fed Thea Jørgensen at the point for the power play goal. The Lions were able to kill off two penalties in the process, as they went into the third period down 3-1.
The final period was eventful, as Mercyhurst scored quickly on the penalty kill to drive its lead back to four goals. Near the halfway point, the Lakers added to their tally with another goal, while the Lions were generating quality offensive possessions. In the final 10 minutes, the intensity picked up on both sides which led to a cluster of penalties. In all, both teams combined for 20 penalties for a total of 64 penalty minutes, setting up for an intense regular season finale on Saturday.
