The Lindenwood softball team (13-3) concluded a bittersweet week in Florida on Wednesday, earning a huge 2-1 extra-inning victory over Winona State at THE Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla.
Â
The Lions, who had four games canceled due to a combination of a lack of umpires and weather, also won their first contest of the week against Trevecca on Sunday morning. Lindenwood and Ferris State were in the fourth inning this afternoon before rain forced the final cancellation.
Â
OVERVIEW
Amanda Weyh was lights out once again, striking out nine over eight frames and allowing a single run for her seventh complete game of the spring. The junior also induced 10 groundouts to improve to 9-0 from the circle.
Â
Lindenwood collected seven hits against Warrior starter Abbie Hlas, pushing across runs in the fourth and eighth innings.
Morgan Gersch chased home
Whitney Kinser in the fourth with the team's third single of the frame, however, the Warriors evened the game at one apiece in the fifth.
Â
Due to softball extra-inning rules dictating a runner starts on second,
Theresa Snaidauf pinch-ran for
Lauren Pelton in the eighth and promptly scored two batters later following a
Taylor Bushman groundout. Winona nearly knotted the score in the bottom of the inning, but it was Bushman herself that threw out Kayla Kerkman at the plate to end the Warriors' final threat.
