Wendel Smashes Two Dingers in Road Split

The Lindenwood softball team (33-7, 20-4 GLVC) earned a road split at McKendree (19-23, 11-15 GLVC) on Saturday afternoon, winning game one on the heels of two homers from Whitney Wendel

Junior ace Amanda Weyh spun her 17th complete game of the spring, punching out nine Bearcats in the 6-1 victory. McKendree salvaged the twin bill in the night cap, however, downing Lindenwood, 10-5.

GAME ONE OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood offense finally cracked through in the third for a crooked number, scoring three runs off a double from Irelynn West that plated Taylor Bushman and Whitney Kinser before Wendel smashed her first dinger of the afternoon moments later. The Bearcats managed a run off Weyh in the fourth, but it would be the only offense the home team would muster in the opener.

After Lauren Pelton singled home Weyh in the sixth, Wendel chased home West with two-run long ball in the seventh to make the score 6-1. Weyh would seal the victory in the bottom half of the frame, sitting down the Bearcats in order for the fourth time in the contest.

GAME ONE LEADERS
Wendel (3-for-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI)
West (1-for-4, 2 RBI, 2B)
Weyh (1-for-4, R, 7.0 IP, 9 K)

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
The Lions wasted no time in the day's finale, with Kinser scoring immediately thanks to a sacrifice fly from West. Weyh then singled to left to score Bushman and Wendel to give Lindenwood a 3-0 lead.

McKendree responded, however, with four runs of its own in the opening frame in part to an uncharacteristic error in the field. The Bearcats took advantage and scored five more runs in the third, capped by a grand slam from Olivia Stansbury. Lindenwood chipped away in the next two innings, with Kinser and Wendel knocking in another run, but McKendree held on for the victory, 10-5.

GAME TWO LEADERS
Weyh (2-for-3, 2 RBI)
Kinser (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI, 2B)
Bushman (1-for-3, R, SB)
Wendel (1-for-2, RBI, R)
Brianna Macias (3.1 IP in relief)
