ST CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's volleyball team fell to the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastadons in three sets on Saturday afternoon in Purdue Fort Wayne, Indiana.
"There were a lot of positives in our match against Fort Wayne. The effort was there, we just were not able to maintain a high level of play long enough to finish sets," said Head Coach
Will Condon. "Fort Wayne did a good job of making us uncomfortable, which is good for us. We need to learn to adapt to have success at this level."
The Lions dropped set one in a tough 23-25 defeat, and set two was lost 16-25, but set three was a fight that ultimately ended up in a 27-29 overtime defeat.
Despite the loss, the Lions were still able to put up some solid numbers against the Mastadons, including a team-leading effort from
Taylor Gentemann, who had 11 kills and 21 receptions, which were the best numbers in each category for the Lions. Madelyn Dement was right behind her with 10 kills and 13 digs, which was the highest number of total digs on the day.
Nyah Wilson put forth a strong offensive and defensive performance as well, registering nine kills, 19 receptions and 11 total digs.
Mia Kunnert made her collegiate debut for the Lions, recording 10 receptions and eight digs throughout the match.
"Overall for the weekend I could not be prouder of this team," said Condon. "This season will be a tremendous challenge and we have chosen to accept it, learn from it and enjoy it together."
Up next, the Lions will take on New Mexico State in the opening round of the Wildcat Classic hosted by Davidson in North Carolina. The start time is set for 1:00pm on Friday, September 2.
