The Lindenwood football team (2-0, 0-0 OVC) will head to Martin, Tenn. on Saturday to take on No. 19 UT Martin (1-2, 0-0 OVC) in the first conference game for the Lions as a NCAA Division I program.
The Lions are coming off back-to-back wins to start the year, including a 37-3 victory over Keiser University on Saturday.Â
Cade Brister led the Lions with 400 yards of total offense, earning his way to this week's OVC Offensive Player of the Week. Brister set a new school record with his first touchdown of the game, marking the most touchdown passes in career.
Kobe Smith racked up 111 yards and two touchdowns in the win, while
Payton Rose accumulated 180 yards and one score. Rose set a new personal best with his 180 yards receiving, beating his previous best by three yards from 2019.
Lindenwood has seen quality production from the defensive unit, as the Lions are averaging 3.5 sacks with 7.5 tackles for loss in the first two games. Already, the Lions have four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, 13 pass breakups, and six quarterback hurries.
Sterlin Williams is leading the squad with 2.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. While Williams has hurried the quarterback three times,
Darion Bolden has collected four pass breakups in the defensive backfield.
For the first time under head coach
Jed Stugart, the Lions have won both the season opener, and the home opener. Lindenwood secured its 100th win at Hunter Stadium on Saturday since the program began as a varsity sport in 1990.
In the most recent AFCA FCS Top 25 Poll, the Lions received four votes. They joined Southeast Missouri State, who has collected 18 votes, and UT Martin, who enters the game at No. 19 in the AFCA poll and No. 18 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 rankings.
