The Lindenwood men's soccer team (1-5-1, 0-1-0 SL fell by a score of 2-1 to Kansas City (3-3-1, 1-0-0 SL) in the opening game of Summit League play on Saturday night from Kansas City, Mo.
GAME OVERVIEW
The first half was a defensive battle as each team combined for only six shots, including two on goal. The Roos found the back of the net in the 34th minute, taking a 1-0 lead late in the opening half. Lindenwood generated two shots, one on goal by
Anis Smajlovic in the 45th minute as the Lions trailed 1-0 at the break.
Lindenwood was unable to get much going early in the second half, as the Roos continued their strong defensive play. Kansas City added a late goal in the 83rd minute, to double its lead, 2-0. The Lions made it interesting late as Smajlovic netted his second goal of the season, making the score 2-1 with about three minutes left.
Isaac Hoog picked up an assist on the score. That would be as close as Lindenwood would get, seeing Kansas City pick up the 2-1 win in the conference opener.
