ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's basketball team will head to Edwardsville, Illinois tomorrow afternoon to take on the neighboring SIUE Cougars at 3:00 p.m.
The Lions are still in search of their first conference victory of the season, now sitting at 0-5 after their most recent game at SEMO, falling in a 45-68 final score in Cape Girardeau last night.Â
In other news, however, senior standout
Emily Benzschawel is currently No. 3 in the entirety of NCAA Division I women's basketball in three-point field goal percentage, generating a stellar 50.7 percentage so far this year. Benzschawel has gone 35-69 from outside the arc, truly making a name for herself in her first season at the Division I level.Â
Another Lion leading the way is
Mary McGrath, who continues to rank highly in various categories at the conference level. McGrath now sits at No. 12 in scoring and No. 9 in rebounding, joined by teammates Benzschawel (17) and
Masyn McWilliams (29) in the conference's Top-30 scorers.Â
McGrath has generated the fourth-best field goal percentage in the OVC with her .510, while Benzschawel is also representing on that same list in slot No. 9 with her .462 percentage from the floor. Three-point percentage wise, Benzschawel is second only to USI's Vanessa Shafford, who leads the entire NCAA Division I in this category (.596). McWilliams boasts the ninth best three-point percentage (.356) and McGrath comes in at No. 12 (.293).Â
SIUE will be a solid opponent for the Lions, currently posting a 3-13 record with a 2-3 mark inside the conference. The Cougars two OVC wins came over SEMO (76-61) and Tennessee State (76-69) in the second week of conference play, helping them inch their way up in the OVC standings so far.Â
Sophomore Sofie Lowis is SIUE's leading scorer, posting an 11.9 PPG average so far this year. Right behind her is Ajulu Thatha (11.5 PPG), who also happens to be the Cougars' strongest rebounder, leading the way with 7.3 rebounds per game. KK Rodriguez will be another player to watch, leading SIUE with 3.1 assists per game.Â
