Women's Basketball Welcomes Former GLVC Foe Southern Indiana

ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's basketball team will host USI tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. in Hyland Arena.

The Lions are still in search of their first conference victory of the season, now sitting at 0-6 after their most recent game at SIUE, falling in a close 63-74 final score in Edwardsville on Saturday afternoon.

Along with looking for their first OVC win, the Lions definitely have something to prove against the Screaming Eagles, who have beaten them the last four times that the two teams met, giving Lindenwood that true underdog edge against USI. The most recent matchup between the two squads was back on February 26, 2022, where USI came out on top in a 42-68 victory in Evansville, Indiana.

The Lions are still led by Mary McGrath who averages 11.7 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game. McGrath currently sits at No. 12 in scoring and No. 9 in rebounding at the conference level, joined by teammates Emily Benzschawel (17) and Masyn McWilliams (29) in the OVC's Top-30 scorers.

McGrath has generated the fourth-best field goal percentage in the OVC with her .510, while Benzschawel is also representing on that same list in slot No. 9 with her .462 percentage from the floor. Three-point percentage wise, Benzschawel is second only to USI's Vanessa Shafford, who leads the entire NCAA Division I in this category (.596). McWilliams boasts the ninth best three-point percentage (.356) and McGrath comes in at No. 12 (.293).

USI is most recently coming off a 60-63 loss to the UT Martin Skyhawks on Saturday evening on their home court in Indiana. After that matchup, the Screaming Eagles now sit at a 2-4 conference mark and 8-9 mark overall.

Senior Hannah Haithcock is Southern Indiana's leading scorer, posting an 14.3 PPG average so far this year. Right behind her is Meredith Raley (13.4 PPG), tag teaming for a strong offensive presence on the Screaming Eagles' side. Vanessa Shafford is the team's leading rebounder with 7.1 rebounds per game, making her USI's defensive mainstay so far this year.
