The Lindenwood men's hockey team (5-16-0) fell to LIU (7-15-1) in overtime by a score of 3-2 on Friday afternoon from East Meadow, N.Y.
GAME OVERVIEW
The opening period was a tight checking one with quality scoring chances hard to come by. After killing off an early LIU powerplay, the Lions got their feet moving.

Hunter Johannes and Johannes was able to give Lindenwood a 1-0 lead at the 16:36 mark. The Sharks earned another man advantage opportunity shortly after, which they were able to tie the score 1-1 with just over two minutes to play in the period. Despite the late goal,
Roni Salmenkangas stopped 14-of-15 shots in the opening frame.
The Lions opened the middle frame on the front foot, putting pucks on net. In the period, Lindenwood compiled 21 shot attempts including 11 on goal.
Sam Watson had a great look from the slot but was denied by the glove of the LIU netminder early in the frame. Lindenwood kept up the pressure, cycling the puck in the offensive zone, looking for the go-ahead goal. This resulted in a late powerplay opportunity for Lindenwood in which they had quality looks with the puck never leaving the offensive zone. The best chance came off the stick of Jeffers, but he was denied by the netminder from the slot. The score remained tied 1-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Lindenwood killed off an early powerplay to begin the final period as the game remained tied. The Lions took the lead at the 8:29 mark of the period as
Joe Prouty wristed one past he LIU netminder. He was assisted by Anderson and
David Gagnon, making the score 2-1. The Sharks responded as five minutes later, they deflected one into the Lindenwood net, which tied the game at 2-2 at the 13:14 mark. Lindenwood was able to earn a late powerplay in the frame but were denied twice late as the game needed overtime.Â
The man advantage continued into overtime, but the Lions were unable to capitalize. With 45 seconds left in the extra session, LIU found the back of the net and grab the victory, 3-2.
