Women's Basketball Stays Home to Take on Morehead State

ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's basketball team is set to host Morehead State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Hyland Arena.

The Lions are still in search of their first conference victory of the season, now sitting at 0-7 after their most recent game against the USI Screaming Eagles, where they fell in a final score of 60-73 last night in Hyland Arena.

Despite strong shooting and limited errors from the Lions, Southern Indiana was finally able to edge Lindenwood in the final minutes of the game, knocking down the majority of their free throws that came from the Lions' multiple attempts to recover the ball before the final whistle blew. Mary McGrath had an impressive 19 point and 6 rebound effort against the Screaming Eagles, leading the Lions once again in both statistical categories. Devin Fuhring and Emily Benzschawel also knocked down double digit points, with Fuhring hitting 16 and Benzschawel hitting 14.

The Lions are still led by McGrath in both the points (12.1) and rebounds (5.8) per game columns. McGrath currently sits at No. 13 in scoring at the OVC level, while Benschawel is right behind her in the No. 15 slot on the list. Benzschawel also boasts the second best three-point field goal percentage in the OVC, while McGrath has the fourth best field-goal percentage, making these two Lions the dynamic duo for their team's offensive presence.

Morehead State is also coming off a Thursday night OVC loss, coming off a 66-72 defeat at SIUE. The Eagles sit at 2-5 in conference play and 6-12 overall, looking to climb the standings right alongside the Lions. Morehead has only secured one victory on the road this year, beating Tennessee State 81-58 back on December 29. The Eagles other nine road matchups have all resulted in losses.

Veronica Charles will be the player to watch for Morehead, as she is the Eagles' leading scorer (12.4 PPG) and rebounder (5.2). Morehead's Sandra Lin has also been a force for the Eagles so far this season, currently ranking second in the conference in both assists and assists per game, and her 10 assists against SEMO is tied for the most in a game by any OVC player this season.
