Neitzke Scores in Loss For Women's Hockey

The Lindenwood women's hockey team (2-21-0, 2-7-0 CHA) dropped its series opener with Syracuse (8-15-1, 5-2-0 CHA) by a final score of 4-1 on Friday night from Centene Community Ice Center.

GAME OVERVIEW
Syracuse got on the board first, finding the back of the net just over two minutes into the opening period, going up 1-0. The period continued with that same score until late the 18:04 mark as Chloe Corbin won an offensive zone draw and Morgan Neitzke fired one past the Syracuse netminder, tying the game 1-1. The Lions had success in the faceoff dot in the opening frame winning 13 draws.

Lindenwood kept up the offensive pressure to begin the second period, drawing an early powerply opportunity. The Lions couldn't capitalize, however. Both goalies were strong in the middle frame, stopping a combined 19 shots on net, including 10 by Natalie Ferenc. The game would remain tied 1-1 after 40 minutes of play, however Lindenwood picked up a penalty as time expired, so it would open the third period on the kill.

The Lions were able to covert on the penalty kill, keeping the game tied. Shortly after, the Orange would garner another man advantage opportunity in which they would convert, making the score 2-1 at the 4:26 mark. Syracuse would go onto add two more goals in the final frame and earn the 4-1 win in the series opener.
