ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Lindenwood women's volleyball (10-11, 6-4 OVC) suffered a loss on Saturday afternoon to the Eagles of Morehead State (12-11, 5-6 OVC) in four sets. The Lions and Eagles split their two matches this weekend in Hyland Arena.
Freshman
Anna Kraemer had a career day with a season high 12 kills and a .440 hitting percentage. She led the team in both categories while adding two blocks.
Nyah Wilson picked up her sixth straight match with double digit kills (10) while also posting her 10th double-double of the season (10 kills, 15 digs).
"I felt like it came down to our serving," said head coach
Will Condon. "We were not able to generate consistent pressure on Morehead and put them into situations where we made it difficult on their offense. We did a good job of scoring points and effort on defense, but we were not able to force them into errors like we were able to last night."
The first set was decided at the service line with Morehead State picking up three aces while the Lions had four service errors. Lindenwood lost 25-21 after MSU posted 14 kills.
Rebecca Janke led the Lions in the first set with three kills and a block.
Kraemer sparked the Lindenwood offense on their way to their lone set win in the second 25-20. She had four kills in the set while hitting .800. Lindenwood as a team had 14 kills in a back-and-forth set that saw 13 ties and five lead changes. LU also had three blocks in the second.
Morehead State took control of the match in the third set with a 25-21 set win to take a 2-1 advantage. Wilson had five of her ten kills in set three while Kramer added another five. They pair combined for 10 of the Lions 15 kills in the set. The Eagles hit .275 in the third while posting another three aces.
Lindenwood's afternoon came to a close in the fourth set as the Lions fell the Morehead State 25-22. The Lions were down big early on, but battled back to only drop the set by three points.
Amber Schade came off the bench and posted four kills in the fourth.
"We had some players come off the bench and make some plays and move us in a positive direction and that was good to see. We will need that kind of depth and impact from players not in the starting line up for the last push of the conference season," said Condon.
Janke finished Saturday's match with nine kills and four blocks.
Jessie Seidel also posted a season high 32 digs in the loss.
Allie Otten led the way as the Lions' top setter with 27 assists and one ace.
Lindenwood will return home next weekend as they host Little Rock on October 27 and 28. For more information go to lindenwoodlions.com.
