The Lindenwood football team (3-5, 1-3 BS/OVC) fell on the road to Tennessee State (6-2, 2-1 BS/OVC) by a score of 43-20 on Saturday afternoon from Nashville, Tenn.
GAME OVERVIEW
Tennessee State scored on its opening possession of the game to take a quick 7-0 lead at the 11:16 mark of the opening quarter. The Lions responded with a quick strike, as
Carter Davis connected with
Jeff Caldwell on a 65-yard touchdown that tied the score, 7-7 less than a minute later. On the Tigers next possession, they had to settle for a field goal, as the Lindenwood defense was stingy in the red zone, with the kick making the score 10-7. A pick six by Tennessee State on the next Lindenwood offensive possession extended the lead to 16-7, which would be the score after one quarter.
The Tigers outscored the Lions 24-0 in the second quarter, as Lindenwood struggled to get anything going in the middle frame. The score at halftime would be 40-7 in favor of Tennessee State.
The only score in the third quarter was a 37-yard field goal from the Tigers. Both teams combined for just 86 yards of total offense in the frame, as each defense stood tall during the third stanza. The Lions began to move the ball during the end of the third but, Lindenwood continued to trail 43-7 after 45 minutes.
Lindenwood capped off its solid drive to begin the fourth quarter as
Jared Rhodes tight roped the sideline for a 40-yard touchdown from
Tyler Kubat. It was the first-career touchdown pass for the freshman quarterback. Lindenwood added one more score late in the fourth quarter with Kubat finding
Spencer Redd from 21 yards out, making the score 43-20 with just over four minutes to go in the game. The would be as close as Lindenwood would get, however as Tennessee Tech picked up the win.

QUOTABLE
"Unfortunately missed opportunities in the 1st half and dug a tough hole to dig out of.," said head coach
Jed Stugart "I can't be disappointed in the fight of our team in the 2nd half.  A lot of teams would have quit, but these guys don't.  We will keep adjusting and coaching till the final bell for the consistency to play 4 quarters we need to win.  We've won games when we do that.  Injuries happen on every team and we have plenty, but it gives a chance to those who've been waiting the opportunity to step up.  Excited for those to see if they meet that challenge
UP NEXT
