On Saturday, the Lindenwood men's hockey team (0-1-0) dropped their season opener 4-1 to the Air Force Falcons in an explosive contest. Despite knotting the score at 1-1 in the second, the Lions were unable to edge the Falcons out.
With the opening period ending scoreless, both teams came out fighting for dominance in the second. Air Force was able to score first, taking a 1-0 lead at the 10:17 mark. Lindenwood's Drew Kuzma scored from in front of the goal, with Jake Southgate and Kyle Jeffers on the assist to even the score at 1-1-. The Falcons were able to notch another goal in the final minutes of the period (18:17) to take a 2-1 advantage into the final period.
At 10:11 in the third period, the Falcon's scored another goal to increase their lead to 3-1. Air Force scored an empty net goal at 16:54, going up 4-1. The Lions outshot the Falcons 36-32 for the contest.
Trent Burnham recorded 59:11 minutes in the net for LU, allowed three goals and recorded 28 saves.
Lindenwood and Air Force will face-off on Sunday, October 8th at 6:05 p.m. CST to complete their two-game series.
