Lions Fight To A 3-2 Loss At Tennessee Tech

Lindenwood had 58 kills in the loss to the Golden Eagles

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Lindenwood women's volleyball (8-9, 4-2 OVC) battled again for the second straight match against Tennessee Tech (6-11, 2-4 OVC) but fell in five sets. Despite the outcome, the Lions had 58 kills and posted a .245 hitting percentage.

Rebecca Janke led the way for the Lions in five sets with 14 kills and a .367 hitting percentage. She also led on the defensive side with a team-high three blocks. Nyah Wilson and Addy McAleer also had 13 kills each with Wilson earning a double-double (13 kills, 14 digs).

"This afternoon was tough," said head coach Will Condon. "I felt like we performed very well in a lot of areas. We just had some issues with our first contact and gave up some key runs."

The opening set was tight at first, but Tennessee Tech never let Lindenwood get back into it eventually winning 25-20. The Lions struggled all day with service errors, picking up four in the first and allowing another four service aces. McAleer had three kills in the set.

Lindenwood bounced back in the second set as they did on Friday picking up a 25-17 win They only trailed once at the 2-1 mark before taking over. The defense held the Golden Eagles to a .030 hitting percentage in the set and seven attack errors. LU hit .333 in the third.

Wilson and McAleer helped Lindenwood take the second set with three kills each. Libero Jessie Seidel did a little of everything with four digs, three assists and an ace during the second set.

Again the Lions' offense picked up the tempo in the third set as Lindenwood would go up 2-1 with a 25-19 set win. Nyah Wilson was dominant in the third with a team-high five kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Allie Otten also had nine assists and helped LU's attackers to 17 total in the third and a .361%.

The Golden Eagles were not down for long as they stormed back to tie the match at 2-2 with a 25-20 set four win. TTU had four blocks and limited the Lindenwood attackers to just 10 kills and a .167 hitting percentage. Five different Lions had a kill in the fourth.

Lindenwood's offense was not able to sustain their play in the fifth set at Tennessee Tech won 15-8 to close out Saturday afternoon's action. Janke had three kills in the final set, but was not enough for the Lions to capture a fifth set win.

"It is hard when you know the players are playing hard and giving a high level of effort and the result is not what they want," said Condon. "But you go on the road and have to take advantage of the opportunities you create and we just were not able to do that today."

Otten had 28 assists for Lindenwood at the setter position while Abby VanBuskirk also added 19. Seidel had 13 digs ending her streak of three straight 20+ dig matches. She also contributed seven assists and three aces. The hero of Friday's match Jade Roth had eight kills in the loss.
