The Lindenwood women's basketball team (0-3, 0-0 OVC) dropped a Wednesday matinee with Cincinnati (1-1, 0-0 B12) by a score of 81-62.
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood and Cincinnati went back and forth early as the game was tied 9-9 midway through the first quarter. Cincinnati went on a quick 10-0 run to grab the lead at 19-9. The Lions responded right back with three quick makes from beyond the arc, two from
Ellie Brueggemann and one from
Kaylen Evans to cut the deficit to 23-18 after one quarter. In total, Lindenwood shot 45 percent from deep during the opening 10 minutes.
Cincinnati turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter, beginning the middle frame on a 20-8 run which extended their lead to 43-26. Brueggemann settled Lindenwood down by making her fourth three pointer of the opening half on the next possession. The Lions would trail 47-31 after 20 minutes of play. Brueggemann led the Lions with 14 points at the break.
The two teams traded buckets throughout the third quarter with the Lions unable to close the gap.
Justis Odom notched six points in the frame, including the last bucket of the period as Lindenwood trailed 63-47 headed to the fourth.
Lindenwood showed some fight early in the fourth and was able to close the gap to 10 points after a Brueggemann layup near the halfway mark of the quarter. That would be as close as the Lions would get, however with the Bearcats finishing the game on a 9-0 run to pick up the 81-62 victory,
