Lions Showcase Talent at Maryville Open

In the Elite category, two members of the Lindenwood University men's wrestling team competed. Ben Lindley (125) dropped both of his matches, the first to Sam Shafer of Maryville and second to Gavin Alexander of SIRTC. McKinley Kemper (184) won by major decision over Shevan Griffith of Kentucky Wesleyan before falling in the quarterfinals to Jeremiah Halter of Drury. Kemper won his next match by major decision over Ricktak Iban of the University of the Ozarks. In the next match, Kemper fell to Owian Ulven of Drury and Ryan Haynes of McKendree.

Amateur 133 saw Brandon Eusebio cruising through the competition, until he fell in the 1st Place Match against Evan Binder. He defeated Eric Harmon, Matthew Gallman and Davis Joiner. After a first round bye, Braden Tatum defeated James Wright of Central Missouri, lost the next round to Evan Binden before taking Perry Lake of Quincy in the next. Ultimately, Davis Joiner of Drury defeated Tatum in the third-round match.

Gunnar LeGrand finished fourth in the amateur 141 class. He had a first round bye and won by decision over Sabian Russell of Quincy. In the semifinal, LeGrand fell to Maryville's Kody Ketchum. LeGrand won by tech fall over Zander Payne of the University of the Ozarks before Sabian Russell defeated him by tech fall in the third-place match.  

The amateur 149 class saw Collin Reif take third. He fell to Mason Cantu. Rounds two and three saw Reif win by injury default over teammate Logan Burks and by decision over Hunter Vernon (Quincy). He also won by decision over Carter Silva of Quincy. In the third place match he won by decision over Cantu. Burks (Logan) lost by major decision to Bradley McDaniel (Ozarks), defeated Corey Hawkins (Fontbonne) by fall over before falling to his teammate, Reif due to injury default.

Finally in the amateur 174, Kaleb Valdez-Lemos placed third. He had a first round bye, fell to Brian Thorpe (Maryville) by decision, defeated John Jasper (Central Baptist) by tech fall and winning the third place match over Jayden Rookhuyzen of Maryville.
