ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's basketball team take on the USI Screaming Eagles on Saturday evening in Evansville, Indiana.
The last time the Lions took the court, they fill in a 50-66 loss to the SIUE Cougars in Hyland Arena.
Emily Benzschawel ended the day on a high note despite the loss, leading the way with 14 total points, while
Devin Fuhring was close behind with 13 points overall. Benzschawel,
Brooke Woodyard and
Masyn McWilliams each had team-leading days on the boards, posting six rebounds a piece against the Cougars.
Makayla Wallace was a defensive force against the Cougars, leading the way with a season-high five steals during her 29 minutes on the court. The graduate transfer also added four points, two rebounds and two assists to her stat line against SIUE.
Meanwhile,
Mary McGrath still leads the way in both the points and rebounds per game columns for Lindenwood, averaging 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Fuhring has the next highest points per game average with 10.9, while
Brooke Woodyard is second best on the boards with her 4.3 rebounds per game average.
When the Lions and Screaming Eagles went head-to-head earlier this season, USI ended up winning by 13 points by a final score of 60-73 on January 19 in Hyland Arena. McGrath dropped 19 points against the Screaming Eagles and grabbed six rebounds, while Fuhring knocked down 16 points and Benzschawel hit 14.
Lindenwood shot 43.1% from the floor, 28.6% from the three-point line and 58.8% from the free throw stripe, while Southern Indiana shot 46.4%, 23.5% and 85.0% respectively.
Since the two teams met on January 19, the Screaming Eagles have gone 1-5, most recently losing to Tennessee Tech 59-79 in Cookeville, Tennessee. Hannah Haithcock still leads the Screaming Eagles which was true the last time the Lions took them on. The senior forward averages 14.8 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game, which is only second to Vanessa Shafford, who averages 7.2 boards a game.
