Women's Hockey Defeats RIT 3-2 in Overtime

The Lindenwood women's hockey team (5-23-0, 5-9-0 CHA) earned a 3-2 overtime win against RIT (4-24-2, 1-10-2 CHA), completing the series sweep of the Tigers on Saturday afternoon from Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.

GAME OVERVIEW
The opening period saw each team earn a combined five powerplay opportunities across the first 20 minutes of play. Despite a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal, Lindenwood was unable to find the back of the net as the game remained scoreless after the first period.

The Lions kept up the offensive pressure in the middle frame, registering another 34 attempts towards the RIT net, including 18 on goal. Lindenwood finally broke through at the 10:13 mark of the period on the man advantage. A wrist shot by Quinn McLaren was tipped in front by Meara Ryan who gave Lindenwood a 1-0 lead. Chloe Corbin also picked up an assist on the goal. RIT tied the game just over four minutes later also on the powerplay, as the Tigers found the equalizer at 14:40. The game would remain tied, 1-1 after 40 minutes of play.

Lindenwood took the lead just over three minutes into the final period. On the powerplay once again, Quinn McLaren lit the lamp, assisted by Emma Hoen, which was the first-career goal for McLaren. The lead was short lived, however as RIT tied the game, 2-2 at the five-minute mark of the period. The Tigers had some quality chances in the third period, but Natalie Ferenc settled in, making 17 saves. Lindenwood thought it had taken the lead with just over five minutes to go, but Morgan Neitzke was determined to be offside, so the game remained tied 2-2. Once again, the Lions thought they had grabbed a late 3-2 advantage but a goal by McLaren was challenged and taken off the board with just under three minutes to go in regulation. The game would head into overtime.

In the extra session on the man advantage, Neitzke made this one count, sliding one past the RIT netminder 56 seconds in. The game-winning goal was assisted by Sena Takenaka and Molly Henderson as the Lions picked up the sweep.

GAME LEADERS
McLaren (one goal, one assist)
Neitzke (one goal, 11 GOG)
