The Lindenwood football team announced future games with three different NCAA Division I FBS schools as far out as 2028. The Lions will square off with the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks in Oxford, Ohio in 2025, and will travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. the following year, for a road matchup with the Eastern Michigan Eagles in 2026. The Lions, who will open the 2024 season in Lawrence, Kan. have added another game with the Jayhawks, set for 2028. Official dates will be announced at a later time.
"Adding FBS teams Kansas, Eastern Michigan, and Miami (Ohio) to our future schedules is one of the many examples of how this program is being built for the future," said head coach
Jed Stugart. "It is also an example of the hard work and dedication by our Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics
Jason Coomer. His commitment to seeing football succeed is absolute. We are excited for the challenge of playing this level of competition and eager to display our brand on a larger platform."
The Redhawks, who are a part of the MAC, finished the 2023 season with a record of 6-7, including a 4-4 mark inside conference play. The Eagles finished 9-4 in 2023 while closing out the year on a four-game winning streak. Kansas finished the 2022 season with a 6-7 record after starting the year with a perfect 5-0 mark. The Jayhawks made their first bowl game appearance since 2008.
"We hope today's announcement brings additional excitement to our students, fans and alumni including the St. Charles community, said Coomer. "As we continue our path to full NCAA Division I status, we will continue to work tirelessly as a staff to put our student-athletes, coaches and staff in a position to compete on the national stage."
Lindenwood ended its first season as a NCAA Division I program with a 7-3 record, while finishing OVC play with a 1-3 mark.
