ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's basketball team will finally be back in action against the UT Martin Skyhawks tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 in Hyland Arena.
The Lions are coming off a three-game hiatus after dealing with multiple injuries and various illnesses, which ultimately forced them into unfortunate forfeiting situations for the last three games on their schedule.
Back on January 21, the Lions took on Morehead State in Hyland Arena, where they dropped a heartbreaking six-point game to the visiting Eagles in a 66-72 loss. All six Lions who played made an impact in this game, however, led by
Alana Striverson, would go on to be the leading scorer of the night with her outstanding 24 point effort. This broke the previous single-game high in the points category this season, which was set by
Mary McGrath when she dropped 22 against Cinncinati in the Lions' home opener. Striverson was also just one point away from tying her career high of 25 points, which she reached last year on Feb. 14 against Missouri S&T.
Along with Striverson, McGrath and
Devin Fuhring also dropped double figures, with McGrath knocking down 17 total and Fuhring contributing 13. McGrath also grabbed her second double-double of the year, making her the only Lion so far this season to reach this in-game milestone. The sophomore standout grabbed 11 total rebounds, which is the most rebounds any Lindenwood player has had in a single game so far this year, making it another well-rounded effort from McGrath.
McGrath still leads the way in both the points and rebounds per game columns for Lindenwood, averaging 12.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Fuhring has the next highest points per game average with 10.3, while Brook Woodyard is second best on the boards with her 4.2 rebounds per game average.
UT Martin will be heading into this game off a victory at SIUE on Thursday night, bringing their conference record to 6-5 and overall record to 9-12.
Sharnecce Currie-Jelks leads the way in both the points and rebounds category for the Skyhawks with her 13.1 and 6.5 averages respectively. Shae Littleford will be another player to watch for UT Martin, as she leads the team in assists with 3.8 per game.
