Baseball Drops Tough Matchup to Missouri on Tuesday

COLUMBIA, Mo. --Junior Brett Bowers went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI for Lindenwood baseball (2-6) in a 17-2 loss to the Missouri Tigers (6-2) on Tuesday.

Sophomore Matt James (0-2) got the ball to start for Lindenwood and took the loss. Sophomore Graham Breite was a bright spot for the Lions, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one scoreless inning, allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout.

Bowers led the way offensively for the Lions, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBI. Junior Bradley Chesterton furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 9-0, the Lions first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Lindenwood (MO) plated two runs when Bowers left the yard with senior Greg Sanders aboard. The Lions were unable to get any closer, as Missouri added eight runs to their tally on the way to a 17-2 final.

GAME NOTES
» Lindenwood's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed two runs across.
» Lindenwood pitchers faced 49 Missouri hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out three.
» Bowers led the Lions at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
» Missouri was led offensively by senior Mann, who went 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBI.
» Freshman Smith led the Tigers pitching staff, throwing three shutout innings.
