Baseball Breaks Through Late for 3-2 Victory over South Dakota State

ST. CHARLES, Mo. --The Lindenwood baseball team (3-14) broke through after a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning to beat the South Dakota State Jackrabbits (3-9) 3-2 Tuesday.

Senior Brody Roach (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Lindenwood. The right-hander went two shutout innings, giving up three hits, no walks and striking out one. Sophomore Bennett Stice started the ballgame and went six innings, surrendering two runs, both earned, on six hits, walking two and striking out two.

In the batter's box, the Lions were led by sophomore Marcus Heusohn, who went 0-for-0 on the day with four walks. Sophomore Dawson Hokuf furnished a standout effort as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior Ethan Abercrombie also chipped in for Lindenwood, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Greg Sanders came across to score the lone run of the inning for Lindenwood and get them on the board.

The Jackrabbits then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Lions got back on the board in the seventh. Lindenwood scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Abercrombie, which evened the score at 2-2.

That 2-2 tie turned into a 3-2 Lindenwood lead in the eighth. The Lions picked up a run on Hokuf's two-out RBI double. The score remained 3-2 for the rest of the game, as Lindenwood held on for the win.

» Lindenwood's highest scoring inning was the eighth, when it pushed one run across.
» Stice put together six innings of two-run ball for the Lions.
» Lindenwood pitchers limited South Dakota State to just 1-for-9 (.111) with runners in scoring position.
» Lindenwood pitchers faced 38 South Dakota State hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and 16 fly balls while striking out four.
» The Lions drew five walks from South Dakota State pitching.
» Heusohn led the Lions at the plate, going 0-for-0.
» South Dakota State was led offensively by junior Cade Stuff, who went 4-for-5 with a triple, a home run and an RBI.
» Freshman Jack Kruger led the Jackrabbits pitching staff, throwing 6.1 innings of two-run ball.

Lindenwood will hit the road for a 4:00 p.m. game on Friday to start a four-game series with Belmont in Nashville, Tenn.
