The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (7-7, 5-2 MIVA) picked up a 3-0 sweep of Quincy (5-11, 0-7 MIVA) on Thursday night from Quincy, Ill. This is the third sweep of the season for Lindenwood.
GAME OVERVIEW
After a back-and-forth beginning of the first set, Lindenwood took control when the score was 17-14 in favor of the Hawks. From that point, the Lions went on an 11-5 run to end the set with the help of a trio of blocks to take it by a score of 25-21. In the set, Lindenwood compiled 12 kills, led by
RaShawn Bonner who had four. As a team in the opening set, the Lions hit .292, while Quincy hit just .042.
Lindenwood jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the second set and never looked back, jumping ahead by as many as eight points. The set was closed out by back-to back services aces by
A.J. Lewis as the Lions took it 25-21. In the set, Lindenwood compiled five aces total which was a big difference in the set. Lindenwood held a 2-0 advantage heading into the third.
Neither team led by more than three points in the third set. Lindenwood had the largest lead at 20-18, but Quincy battled back and would take a brief one-point lead late in the set. Lindenwood got one back and the two squads proceeded to trade points all the way to the end of the match. A kill by Bonner put the Lions ahead 3-2 and the third set ended just like the second for Lindenwood; with a service ace, this time by
Connor Sheehan. With the ace, Lindenwood picked up a 34-32 victory in that set and won the match 3-0. A strong .485 hit percentage in the stanza helped the Lions earn the sweep.
