ST. CHARLES, MO. --The Lindenwood baseball team broke through after a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning to knock off the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles 6-3 on Friday at Lou Brock Sports Complex.
Freshman Carson Subbert (1-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Lindenwood. The right-hander went two shutout innings while giving up two hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Freshman Easton Rakers also made an impact on the mound for the Lions, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits.
Junior Brett Bowers led the way offensively for the Lions, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a double, a walk and two RBI. Senior Joe Copeland compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI. Junior Colin Shea also contributed, going 2-for-3 for Lindenwood with a double and a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Lions first put runs on the board in the third inning. Lindenwood scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Bowers.
The Screaming Eagles broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fourth inning, when the Lions got back on the scoreboard. Shea came across to score the lone run of the inning for Lindenwood, which evened the score at 3-3.
That 3-3 tie turned into a 6-3 Lindenwood lead in the eighth. The Lions scored three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run single off the bat of Copeland. The score remained 6-3 for the rest of the game, as Lindenwood held on for the win.
